Mac Apps I Desperately Want on the iPhone

I have a core wish-list for iPhone apps and it goes like this:

  • SpamSieve
  • OmniFocus
  • Twitterrific
  • MarsEdit
  • Yojimbo
  • A proper PDF reader

My biggest unknown with the iPhone SDK so far is whether Apple are going to provide some access to the sync mechanism for third parties. I certainly hope so.

What are you waiting for?

Amen to SpamSieve. That’s top of my list too. I haven’t even tried using e-mail on my iPhone yet; partially because I work from home and thus don’t need it, but mostly because I can’t imagine e-mail without SpamSieve any more.

Put the camera on the face and give me iChat video.

The list seems pretty good.

I'd like to see 1Password, for web site password, banking info, serial numbers, etc.. This would be a big plus!

iChat, an e-Book reader (in fact, if the SDK means Books.app can be released legitimately, that'll be just dandy), Twiterrific, and more importantly than anything else: a means of To-do syncing—I don't care whether it's Apple or third-party-provided, it just needs to be there.

I do notice the lack of a spam filter with MobileMail (the account that have server-side filtering versus the one that doesn't—you can spot the latter a mile off due to the fact that it *always* has about 15 new messages).

1. a native RSS reader that syncs with my NetNewsWire, either via Newsgator or something else. The web-based things just don't cut it for me.

2. ssh client. Yeah, it's a real pain to use it with the iPhone keyboard, but it's even more of a pain to lug my MBP everywhere with me solely for the sake of an ssh client in case an emergency comes up.

3. iChat, with a proxy somewhere that keeps me logged on all the time and indicates to other people whether I'm in front of my computer or not, so the client can drop the network connection and check for new IMs only every few minutes when I'm not actively iChatting.

4. A decent e-mail client. Surely someone will come up with something. The standard iPhone Mail is about 90% of the way there, but the lack of that other 10% is very annoying.

I've long either read my mail directly, or had copies of my mail forwarded to, various Palms, Blackberries, etc., so I've put all my spam-filtering efforts on the server side. Spamsieve on the iPhone would have the problem of having to use a lot of battery power to download and analyze all your mail in your pocket. It'd be better than nothing, but I remain firmly convinced that the place for spam filtering is on the server.

I'd like a way to upload some of my mobile pictures to flickr, instead of emailing a lower quality file. ;-)

I would really like a calender with a monthly view that has text, like DateBk 6.
I would also like to save and open documents [Word and Excel] without using email.
Is it too much too ask?
