There's been a lot of griping about iMovie 08, but I'm really very impressed with it. It's particularly useful for putting together slideshows of photographs.
By default, photos are imported and have a Ken Burns effect applied to them. I really don't like this for pure photo slideshows, so I turn it off. It's not obvious where or how to disable it, though: it's a per-project setting, so it can be changed in File / Project Properties...
Obviously, the YouTube level of quality isn't so great but it looks nice in larger sizes.
